Finally Free!

It has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him& (1 John 3:2 NKJV)

Sin's penalty was done away with at the cross. Sin's power is overcome by the Holy Spirit in the life of the believer. But what about that last lingering act in sin's entangling tenure? What about the very presence of sin that we're constantly contending with in this fallen environment we call earth?

John answers this by sharing with us that when the veil separating us from the Lord is finally lifted, we will be like Him. In other words, the sin that has made such an indelible impression on our human nature will be removed and replaced with a new, pure, and perfect nature like His. Paul elaborates on this point in his letter to the Philippians:

"For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior...who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself." (Philippians 3:20-21 NKJV)

In Heaven, we will finally be free from sin in every possible sense, free from its penalty, free from its power, and free from its presence. One day we'll be face to face with our sinless Savior, we'll inhabit a sinless body, and we'll dwell in a sinless city for all eternity.

No matter how discouraged you may find yourself at this very moment, no matter how overwhelming your sin may seem to you today...don't ever forget that it's on the way out!

Its gates shall not be shut at all by day...there shall by no means enter it anything that defiles, or causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb's Book of Life. (Revelation 21:25-27 NKJV)

Discuss and share how it makes you feel to know that in heaven you will no longer struggle with the power of sin. How does this truth encourage you now?

Dig into Philippians 3:20â21 and Revelation 21:25â27. What specific blessings are described for us in these scriptures? How do these verses open your eyes to the freedom we have from sin? What does your heavenly citizenship mean to you today?

Decide with your group to celebrate the completion of this month's study. Plan a night out and enjoy dinner together. Review the lessons learned and spend some time sharing what God has shown you through this study.
