Has America cast our need for a Savior onto the Office of the President rather than onto Jesus? What is the impact of this?

Life is not about the challenges we face, it is about how we face them. Election or no election (and Republican or Democrat for that matter) one thing remains the same now and forever more. Jesus is THE savior. Period. Looking to anyone or anything else is the equivalent of appointing a substitute, or a false god. Jesus, alone, is the solution to every problem that ever was, is, or will be.

That said, it is very easy to look at the perilous times we face and choose to look elsewhere for the answer to our country's challenges. After all, we're in the middle of a recession, our public education system is in shambles, health care becomes more unaffordable by the minute, and unemployment is skyrocketing by the second. Looking to politician (at any level) to 'save' us, however, is always a mistake. God sent us one Savior. He only sent us one because that's all we need.

Nonetheless, God does appoint leaders to help guide and direct us. The bible allows for the rule and infrastructure of government. Given that we have the privilege of living in a representative democracy - meaning we get to elect our leaders - we must use the power to vote responsibly.

By voting we choose our direction and leadership. Our leaders impact our collective ability and approach to the challenges we face every day. As such, while the President is not and cannot be the Savior , he is (arguably) the most powerful figure in the world. My point? Who we elect matters.

From a faith-based standpoint, I believe that both our candidates this year are Christian men. I do not doubt the sincerity of either of their faiths. For Americans, I believe it's a wonderful thing to see two Believers seeking the oval office. But, for Believers, it can be a bit daunting to determine which way to vote. Your choice does matter nonetheless.

As a lawyer, I've been trained to go to the Book of Law for guidance on how to decipher a challenging situation. In this election, I've decided to use the Lambs Book of Life to guide my choice. I'm not choosing which candidate is more of a Christian. I'm choosing which candidate has laid out a plan to meet the needs and fulfill the hopes of the World today. And, I will not hide my selection. I'm supporting Barack Obama, and here is why. In one word, it's called hope.

I believe that Barack's vision represents Matthew 25:45, which states, "I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me." For a country that has been given much, much is required. It is more than a mission, it is a mandate. I believe that he has been called for such a time as this.

The one thing that God gave mankind (that's you and me) is the most powerful thing we possess as human beings. That one thing is the power and freedom of CHOICE. God will never make our decisions for us. He even gives us the freedom and the power to make the most crucial choice in our lives by choosing whether or not to follow Him. He gave Adam and Eve free choice, along with Cain & Able, Moses, Joshua, Daniel, and even Judas. We possess the same thing.

Our decisions determine our destiny. That includes whether we decide to listen to new ideas or continue to accept nonsense. We are reaping the economic, social, and spiritual consequences (and, I recognize many benefits as well) from previous decisions our nation has made. Right now, America needs a transformational figure that will electrify and unite the world. While I believe that John McCain is a good man and distinguished public servant, I do believe Barack Obama is the leader we need now. He has met the test, he has the vision, and he is ready to lead.

No, you will not be voting for a Savior this November. (However, you can make that choice today if you haven't already.) The election is a chance for your voice to be heard on issues that matter. The world needs Hope, not Hate. Jeremiah 29:11 states, "For I know the plans I have for you...plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you HOPE and a future." I have seen elements of Hate in one campaign. I have seen Hope in another. I want a leader who will face our world's challenges the same way that Christ instructs us to face our problems - with Hope.
