This is not fully original. I heared the basics from another story from when I was really little and from what I didn't remember I used my imagination to make the details. The Seed:Long ago there was a kingdom ruled by a wise and patient Emperor named Makoto. Emperor Makoto was a very old man who had no male heir to his throne. He once had sons but all had died of war or sickness and his only child was his daughter Naomi. The Emperor knew that he needed to find a responsible honest young man to take over after he would die. He did not want a greedy boy who was untrustworthy. So he came up with a plan that would find this special individual. Makoto decreed that all of the boys of kingdom would come to his palace for a challenge that would decide the future ruler of his land.Meanwhile down in the village near the palace lived a boy named Hiroshi who lived with his family. His father Katsu and his mother Aoi both worked in the Emperor's garden and Hiroshi and his little brother Jiro both dreamed of being great gardeners just like their parents. One day Hiroshi and his friend Ichiro were in the market when they heard a man shouting an announcement from the palace saying that the Emperor was trying to find an heir to his kingdom and that any willing are welcome to the palace to pick up the challenge that his majesty has in store.Hiroshi being convinced by his friend goes to the palace to try his luck. There he is handed a small bag that contains a seed and then told the challenge. All the boys in the kingdom are being given a seed to care for. In one year they are to report back with the fruits of their labor and whoever does the best shall win the Emperor's favor.Hiroshi so excited ran home to his family to show his seed and tell them his challenge. His family was happy for him and supported him to do his best. So he took his seed and put it into a pot full of soil and tried his very best. However even though Hiroshi tried day after day nothing came from the soil. Ichiro had told him that he had gotten a bad seed and needed to get a different one Hiroshi would not do it. He never gave up hope for the day when it would start to grow.Days turned to weeks and weeks to mouths with still no plant and then the time became nearer and nearer for the time when Emperor Makoto would judge the plants of the contestants. When that day came Hiroshi still only had his empty pot with nothing to show for all his hard work. But he still went to the palace that day even though he had nothing but his little pot of dirt. When he got to the palace he saw all of the other boys' flowers. Some blue, red, purple, and some so beautiful that he had never seen anything like it. Gazing at the plants brought Hiroshi walked over to the corner of the room and sat staring at his pot his eyes started to fill up with tears and stopped suddenly as a shadow cast above him. He looked up to see the face of an old man who smiled in concern. He then spoke asking him what plant he had brought for the Emperor to see. Hiroshi replied that he could not get anything to grow from the seed he had been given and only had and empty pot of soil. Hiroshi stood to walk away but the old man stopped him and in a loud voice said "this boy is my new heir for he has a hard working, patient heart that is truthful and does not lie. He did not throw away the seed I had given him as all of you did. For you see the seed I gave would not have grown for I had them boiled so that they could not sprout. This boy never gave up on his seed and now he is to be your great leader when I am gone. He will marry my daughter Naomi and together they will rule over the next generations."As the old man finished Hiroshi could not speak. He could only stand there in shock trying to take it all in. He was now the heir of the kingdom and him, his family, and hid friend Ichiro moved into the palace where Hiroshi learned great wisdom from Emperor Makoto in his last years and was by his side at the time of his death. He ruled as a great man and through all he had learned and done for his kingdom he became known as Emperor Hiroshi the True and was still even after many generations had passed. But I end with this, all great things start as a seed

I like this story. I'm signing it for my Final Exam in Sign Language Class.
