Fr. Blauvelt's 6th of July Blurb
July 6th 2009
Finally, Fr. Blauvelt has posted a blurb! After six weeks, Fr. Blauvelt's Blurb is back. If you have been a regular reader of my blurb, you would know that it takes around six times of doing something to form a habit, and thus in order to be sure I did not get in the habit again of not posting, I needed to post today.
This has been a fun, busy, and difficult past couple of months. As many of you may know, my mother had been battling with health problems, too numerous to keep track of. The day of Cinco de Mayo, she told my wife and I that she was officially in end stage of her cirrosis of the liver, and only a transplant could save her. 26 days later, and no transplant, she died, and now she is dancing.
On May 29th, as you would have seen on the last post, there was a Jones Unleashed/Center Tree concert. This concert really helped me to make it through the weekend. "Let me Dance" was a theme song for my mother's life to me, and I made a video with it, as well as a few other songs as the soundtrack. The last time that my mother was really able to dance was at my wedding in 2004, and the promise that she would be able to dance was wonderful!
I have a hope today, that no matter how hard things get, no matter how much pain there is, that God does provide, and that there is a hope greater than anything else, found in Christ alone. In the passage from II Corinthians, it speaks about how a man visited the third heaven, (most scholars think that Paul is talking about himself,) and I was asked about that during the service on Saturday (we have an intermission.) What is this third heaven, are there levels to heaven? In regard to this passage the third heaven is a differentiation between the heavens, that is, the first heaven being the waters above, or the sky, the second heaven being the depths of space, the stars and the planets, and the third heaven, being our awaited home. This passage is not talking about levels of heaven, but rather that the man was taken to heaven, where God is, to paradise, the courtyard garden of the king. Paul tells us about this in the body or out of the body experience, he doesn't know, and it does tell us a very short glimpse of the paradise waiting for those of us who follow Jesus Christ. There are no details, no descriptions in this passage, but nonetheless Paul tells us about this place, and I know my mother is there, in paradise, dancing with my King. I also know that I will join her, short time or long, I do not know, along with Paul, Peter, and all the saints to worship God for eternity, and dwell in His presence. This is a great hope, and I am glad for it.
