Dr. Cherry teaches on the subject of allergies, allergic rhinitis, bronchitis, and asthma. Allergic rhinitis, which refers to an inflammation in the lining of the nose, is the most common allergic reaction. Traditional medicine has typically treated allergic symptoms with antihistamines, such as Benadryl, which causes drowsiness, Claritin, which is very expensive, and decongestants, such as Sudafed, which can be very stimulating and elevate blood pressure.
Natural treatments for allergic reactions include quercitin, a compound found in apples and onions, that has the same essential effects of Claritin, Benadryl, and Sudafed. It inhibits the bodyâ??s release of histamines and acts to stop the runny nose and watery eyes that occur with allergic and hay fever symptoms. Histamine causes the vessels to dilate and leak and that is why the runny nose occurs. The root cause of allergies is an over-reactive immune system. God designed our immune systems to recognize things that are harmful to the body and literally flush them out. If your immune system is over-reactive the body misinterprets things that are harmless, such as common pollen, dust, etc. as being harmful and overreacts by pouring out histamine. The term anti-histamine refers to the action of blocking histamine release. Quercitin is a natural histamine blocker. Numerous studies have been conducted on quercitin. Dr., Cherry cites study results published in â??The American Journal of Clinical Nutritionâ?? that revealed quercitin decreased asthma incidents. It has to be taken in capsule form because it would require eating at least a bushel of apples to achieve any results.
Tinospora is another interesting compound that has been isolated from the stem of a climbing plant native to Asia, primarily India. This stops sneezing symptoms, excess secretions and nasal discharge, and decreases obstruction. Dr. Cherry cites a study conducted on tinospora in which 75 participants reported an 80 to 100 percent improvement in their symptoms of nasal discharge, obstruction, and itching.
Millions of people are affected by allergic symptoms. There will always be pollen, spores, dust, and pollutants in the air. It is much better to address these symptoms with natural compounds instead of resorting to nose drops and steroidal sprays. Dr. Cherry states that treatment with nose sprays should be limited to three days because of the rebound sinus congestion effects #oc;iated with them that can lead to swelling and blockage of the sinus cavities.
It is only within the past year that study results have been released on the natural treatments for the symptoms #oc;iated with allergic reactions. Thirty-five million people are affected with allergic rhinitis. Eighty percent of sinus problems are not an infection but are caused by allergic reactions. Twelve to fifteen million people suffer from asthma. A lot of asthma symptoms are caused by allergies; airway constriction is really a reaction to an allergen: dust, mites, pollen, etc. More and more children are being diagnosed with asthma.
Quercitin, a compound isolated from apples and onions that can be placed in capsule form, acts as an antihistamine and relieves runny nose, watery eyes, and hay fever symptoms. Some studies have shown that it benefits asthmatic suffers if the asthma is triggered by allergies. It is very effective when combined with another natural plant extract, Tinospora, which comes from the stem of a plant native to India. Tinospora stops sneezing, decreases nasal congestion and obstruction. These ingredients target histamine release and inhibit it. They act in the same way as prescription and over-the-counter antihistamine products but without any side effects.
Polyphenols, an ingredient found in grapes, is another interesting ingredient that has been shown to be a potent histamine inhibitor and bronchial tree dilator. A chemical found in green tea, epigallocatechin gallate, or EGCG, inhibits IgE receptor release. By inhibiting this receptor, which is part of the immune system, nasal drainage, hacking cough, sinus problems, watery eyes, and sneezing are relieved. Green tea is also of benefit to asthmatics because this same receptor can in many cases trigger an asthmatic attack. Vitamin C has an antihistamine effect that has been shown when taken in combination with quercitin, tinospora, and polyphenols to decrease bronchitis. Chronic bronchitis is a common problem for smokers and those with sensitivities to air pollution. It is a very stubborn problem that can set the stage for infection. Asthma can be life threatening and the need for steroids and inhalers is very prominent. The use of steroidal compounds can be devastating because they suppress the bodyâ??s adrenal gland and have a lot of side effects, such as: water retention and calcium loss from bones.
